Patience & Perseverance, Yellowstone National Park, WY

Photographer's Notes:
This picture was taken in late May of 2010.
This was on of those moments... A few wolves from an interior park pack had singled this
cow elk out of the herd. She chose to flee to this lily pad lake situated between North and
South Twin Lakes, just south of Roaring Mountain. She was able to keep the wolves at a
distance, but she could not stay submerged in the cold water all day. The female elk was
persevering with what she had to now deal with. The wolf on the other hand, was very
patient and waited for another opportunity for a meal.  This image was taken from the
paved roadside. I came across this situation earlier in the morning, and as visitor and tour
traffic increased, there was added stress for this cow elk's predicament.  I left, not wanting
to cause more to this moment in Yellowstone's Wild Times. The end result was, the elk
was finally taken by the wolves in the evening, without the view of humans...
At this time, I do not recall which pack this wolf originated from.
