| Image Title: Elk Chasing Wolf, Yellowstone National Park, WY Photographer's Notes:
I noticed a black wolf howling to the northwest of the road as I drove through Swan Lake Flats. The wolf was joined not long after by a collared gray... Nobody had noticed the wolf at this point, but as it made it's way closer to the road, hoping to cross the cars started to stop and watch... This made it hard to find a break for the wolf to travel. After a few attempts, it finally ran full speed across the road, south of the "wolf jam" and headed on its way. After the stress of the roadside the wolf quickly had to pick up its pace and dart and weave away from an angry cow elk who most certainly had her newborn calf hidden in the sagebrush near by. I believe that thecalf survived this chance encounter with its biggest predator! This image is currently available in multiple sizes.
