Prarie Rattlesnake Face, Yellowstone Nat'l Park, WY

Photographer's Notes:
The Prarie rattlesnake is not a creature to
anger!  This image was made on a cool autumn
afternoon just after the snake rose over a foot
off the ground in "strike position" after it was
startled along the Rescue Creek Trail.  This
time of year in Yellowstone, snakes can be
lethargic.  Hikers along the Yellowstone River
area should pay very close attention to where
    they plant there feet!

This is the only seriously dangerous, venomous
snake found in Yellowstone - usually at
    elevations below 6,000'.
    * Interesting factoid - only 2 rattlesnake bites are known
in the history of the park!
