from a distance. I was high in the Gallatin Mountain Range in the north-west corner of Yellowstone's backcountry. I thought this marmot was trying to camouflage himself, but after watching for a few more minutes, I realized he was actually warming himself on top the boulder. The warmth of the sun had heated the rock up during the day and the temperatures would drop during evening at this elevation... So the little 'whistle pig' was sucking every minute of warmth out of the rock, keeping his chin and belly nice and toasty! This image is currently available in multiple sizes.
