Warmed Up Marmot

Photographer's Notes:
This marmot sat very still as I watched him
from a distance. I was high in the Gallatin
Mountain Range in the north-west corner of
    Yellowstone's backcountry.  I thought this
marmot was trying to camouflage himself,
but after watching for a few more minutes, I
realized he was actually warming himself on
top the boulder.  The warmth of the sun had
heated the rock up during the day and the
temperatures would drop during evening at
this elevation... So the little 'whistle pig' was
sucking every minute of warmth out of the
rock, keeping his chin and belly nice and
    toasty!
