Elk Calf 2

Photographer's Notes:
A sight that is rarely seen, yet happens most
everyday in Yellowstone during early June.
Elk calves recently born are hidden, lying
stationary in sagebrush and grassy areas...
maybe even next to lichen-covered boulders.
I do not remember this calf moving a muscle.
We had no intentions on getting so close, but
we nearly walked on top of this young elk!
I am glad that at least this day, this young one
survived an encounter with one of its many
    known predators...
