    These vibrantly 'painted' fowl were resting idly
    on a rock among the LaHardy Rapids section
    of the Yellowstone River.
    This is the most southern & inland stretch for
    their summer migration.  Here is one place
    they are most likely to be found - among the
    rapids and spawning cutthroat trout!  AND,
    sitting on one of Yellowstone's two resurgent
    domes (spots of recent uplift in the crust
    above the park's active super-volcano)
