her cub-of-the-year that raiding a bird nest in early summer could bring a successful breakfast! On this quiet early morning hour on the Blacktail Plateau Drive, we rounded a corner to see this sow black bear quickly climb the broken Aspen tree trunk and pull out an adult Northern flicker. It appeared to us that the mom did not share with the cub, nor did it find any young birds. This was an opportunity that this bear took advantage of and hopefully the cub will remember this early life lesson in how to find food. This image is currently available in multiple sizes.
