Big Griz, Yellowstone National Park, WY

Photographer's Notes:
This large male was roaming the area of
Mary Bay on the north shore of
Yellowstone Lake.  He was estimated to be
about 400 lbs., a good size bear for this time
of year.  An opportunistic feeder, a grizzly is
normally found in autumn at higher
elevations. Due to a poor crop of whitebark
pine nuts (fall 2008), this bear choose to
tolerate humans and feed on a few roadside
killed deer.  This excellent food source will
help him to survive his time in the den.
