The 100+ year old trees are not far from the northern boundary of Yellowstone, so historic as they are - they are an attractant for bears during autumn when caloric intake is vital for the long sleep ahead. This image was taken from an open window while sitting in the safety of their home. This bear would eat the fermenting apples - making it more lethargic by the hour! I appreciated this frame - "the eye on the prize"! An opportunistic feeder, a grizzly is normally found in autumn at higher elevations. Due to a poor crop of whitebark pine nuts, this bear choose to tolerate humans and feed on other available sources. This excellent food source will help it to survive the time in the den.
